Facebook is preparing a new desktop version of its social networking site to compete with other sites like LinkedIn, the Financial Times reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.
"Facebook is secretly working on a new website called Facebook at work" that allow users to "chat with colleagues, links with professional contacts and collaborate on documents," he said.
Facebook last month reported its quarterly profit nearly doubled to $ 802 million (640 M €), but has seen its shares hit after outlining a plan to invest heavily in the future instead of wallowing in wealth in the short term.
"We will continue to prepare for the future by investing aggressively, connecting everyone to understand the world, and the construction of the next generation in computing platforms," said the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, and the then leader.
"We have a long way to go," he said.
Facebook, which has 1.35 billion monthly active users worldwide, was created in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg with other Harvard students who wanted to set it as a site of university networks.
The site has been looking to expand its offerings, revealing an application that allows people to chat anonymously virtual "rooms", referring to the chat rooms of the early days of the Internet.
It is also testing a feature that allows users of the first social network for shopping with just one click on the "Buy" screen.
Facebook has completed its billions of dollars for mobile messaging application WhatsApp last month.
